Sorority Membership Expectations at Ball State University
Standards- Every chapter establishes distinct guidelines for member conduct. These expectations encompass adherence to national, state, and local regulations, as well as BSU and chapter protocols. They also encompass meeting financial responsibilities punctually.
Academics- All sororities affiliated with Ball State University uphold rigorous academic standards and anticipate members to excel in their studies. Chapters may provide mentorship, peer tutoring, and dedicated study sessions to support academic achievement. In general, many students discover that allocating two hours outside of class for every hour spent inside the classroom each week is necessary to adequately prepare for and excel in their academic coursework.
Meetings- New members must attend meetings of varying lengths, which cover the chapter's history, expectations, and prepare individuals for initiation into the chapter. After initiation, members are expected to attend chapter meetings on a weekly basis.
Participation Requirements- Members must partake in a range of events each semester, such as chapter meetings, philanthropic activities, recruitment, and community service initiatives. Chapters implement different systems for participation and promote member attendance at events. The principle of “you get out what you put in” emphasizes the significance of attending events and meetings.
Being in a sorority presents numerous advantages, fostering personal growth and development. Alongside these opportunities, members are expected to actively engage in chapter activities and uphold high standards, core values, and the principles of sisterhood/siblinghood.
